WORLD VISION PROGRAMS: KENYA & THE PHILIPPINES

World Vision Canada programs Creating Lasting Change

World Food Programme (WFP)

In partnership with the WFP, World Vision helps alleviate hunger and malnutrition in vulnerable communities. During their visit to Kenya, our Ambassadors spent time in the Kakuma Refugee Camp, home to approximately 300,000 displaced people seeking refuge from conflict, persecution, and natural disasters. Due to decreasing donations, food rations to refugees have been reduced by 50%. This shortfall in funding results in mothers going without food to ensure their children are fed. Every contribution, no matter how small, can make a significant difference in the lives of these refugees.

Education

In Kenya and the Philippines, our Ambassadors visited schools and classrooms speaking with the administration, teachers and students. They learned how programs like Learning Hubs and Child Sponsorship help alleviate financial burdens on families, making education more accessible. World Vision provides funding and resources, enabling schools to improve infrastructure and educational materials. These initiatives motivate children to dream big, fostering a culture of perseverance and ambition.

Livelihoods

World Vision's livelihood projects provide the necessary tools and training to uplift communities out of poverty. In Kenya, our Ambassadors’ witnessed the growth of farming businesses, where gardens flourish and chickens provide steady income. In the Philippines, 4,216 people were actively involved in savings groups, providing them with financial literacy training and access to small loans. The resilient people our ambassadors met have not only improved their own economic situations but have also contributed to the overall well-being of their communities.

Empowerment

World Vision promotes individual empowerment among people living in the communities we serve. In the Philippines, we met an empowered group of youth leaders who serve as role models and mentors to children in their community. Their involvement helps to break the cycle of violence, poverty, and lack of education, creating a more positive and sustainable future. In Kenya, one woman's success story illustrates the power of mentorship. The farmer, who runs a successful chicken farm, has adopted and educated 11 children, demonstrating how economic empowerment can be leveraged to create lasting social impacts.
